The fires of summer across a dry BC

As we issue our inaugural edition of The Record, our hearts go out to the many thousands of people in British Columbia besieged by forest fires.

As smoke blocked out the skies above our city this summer, we wondered if our home itself, planet earth, was ill and suffering as well.

Clean, clear air is one of the blessings of life in Victoria, sorely missed in the middle weeks of August–and blissfully restored by winds from the strait, flowing across the Olympics.

We hope for the safety of our fellow-humans and other creatures caught in the midst of fire and smoke.

Let the rains fall.
